Vera Semenoff of Grand Forks, BC, passed away in the loving presence of family at Hardy View Lodge, February 16, 2012, age 81. Born in Lundbreck, Alberta February 15, 1931, she is predeceased by her parents Peter and Helen Salekin, husband Pat, and brothers, Mike and Harry. Vera is survived by her daughter Elaine (John) Sookochoff, Grand Forks; son Wally (Valarie) Semenoff, Christina Lake; granddaughter Cosette (Mark) Kempston and great-granddaughter Kiana Kempston, Kelowna; brother Larry (Margaret) Salekin, niece Lynn (Chris) Parno, Airdrie, AB; nephew Anthony Salekin, Calgary, AB; nephew Don Salekin, Grand Forks; and many other extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at the USCC Community Centre on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., with interment to follow at the Sion Doukhobor Cemetery nearby; Grand Forks Funeral Home in care of arrangements; Jerry Seminoff officiating. JULIA PEREPELKIN - Posted February 16, 2012

After a long, full life, Julia Perepelkin passed away just shy of her 92nd birthday at Abbotsford General Hospital, February 3, 2012 after a short battle with pneumonia. Born in Pass Creek, BC to Fred and Nastia Fillipoff, Julia made homes in Winlaw, Robson, and Castlegar before moving into care in Aldergrove. Predeceased by her parents, brothers John and Sam, husbands Pete Perepelkin and Mickit Nazarov, daughter-in-law Florence Perepelkin, granddaughter Larissa Perepelkin and grandson Keith Perepelkin, Julia is survived by her son Peter Perepelkin (Joy), daughters Evelyn Markin (Allan) and Teresa Verigin (Brent), and grandchildren Allison Markin, Quentin Markin (Heather) and Brenden Verigin.
A lifelong USCC member, her service took place at the Brilliant Cultural Centre, February 8, 2012, with interment at the Brilliant Doukhobor Cemetery; funeral arrangements by Castlegar Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the USCC or ISKRA would be gratefully accepted.
NICK KURBATOFF - Posted February 6, 2012

Nick Kurbatoff of Grand Forks, BC passed away at the Victorian Community Health Centre in Kaslo, BC on January 21, 2012. He was 97 years old. Nick was born January 17, 1915 in Arron Saskatchewan to Nick and Polly (Malloff) Kurbatoff. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Mable (Zebroff) Kurbatoff and wife Anna (Vanjoff) Kurbatoff, sister Tina Esouloff and step-son Peter Sookochoff. Nick is survived by his children: Mary Dergousoff, Polly MacKenzie, John Kurbatoff, Mable Postnikoff, Violet Zaytsoff and their families and by his step-sons Mike Sookochoff and Alex Padmoroff and their families.
No funeral service by request. A private burial was held February 6, 2012 at the Sion Doukhobor Cemetery. Grand Forks Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
FRED ZIBIN - Posted January 31, 2012

Fred Zibin of Castlegar, BC passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2012 at the age of 90. Born December 12, 1921 in Brilliant BC to Nikolai and Wasoonya Zibin, Fred lived in the Kootenays all his life. Well known in the area for his community efforts and leadership, he had a rich life with a large family and many close friends. Fred delighted in time with his family, managing the farm, singing, traveling the world, and carpentry. Fred is survived by 8 children; Fred Zibin, Nina Babakaiff, Monica Holloway, Serge Zibin, David Zibin, Emilia Brownlow, Lydia Zibin and Andrew Zibin and their families. He also had 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by wives Polly and Emily and survived by partner Tennette Sipko.
A funeral service was held Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Brilliant Cultural Centre. A family celebration of Fred’s life followed.

Lucy Dergousoff of Grand Forks, BC, passed away at Boundary Hospital January 29, 2012, age 82. Lucy was born April 10, 1929 in Grand Forks, BC, to George and Molly Zebroff, and lived here all her life. She is predeceased by her first husband, Sam Waselenkoff, son, Bobby Waselenkoff, brothers Bill, John, George and Peter, and sister Mary Voykin. She is survived by her husband Max Dergousoff; sons Jerry and Clyde Waselenkoff; daughter Janice (Paul) Patterson; grandchildren: Danielle, Jim and Katie; great grandchildren: Julian, Noelle and Isabelle; and her twin sister Helen Hrischuk.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the USCC Community Centre in Grand Forks, followed by a memorial luncheon; Jerry Seminoff officiating. NICK N. NEVOKSHONOFF - Posted January 29, 2012

Nick Nevokshonoff of Krestova, BC passed away on January 27, 2012 at the Kootenay Lake and District Hospital in Nelson, BC at the age of 82. Nick was born on December 22, 1929, one of six children in the family of Nick and Helen Nevokshonoff, in Krestova, where he lived until suffering a major stroke, just two days before his passing. He is predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Polly; children, Jim (Veronica), Norman (Annette), Patsy (Max) Chernenkoff and Grace McCluskie; three grandsons, two granddaughters and three great granddaughters, as well as many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at the Krestova Community Hall on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., with burial to follow at the Krestova Cemetery; Sid Malakoff officiating.

Mike Strukoff of Grand Forks, BC passed away on January 8, 2012, at the Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks. He died on his 82nd birthday, in the loving presence of his family. Born in Grand Forks, BC on January 8, 1930, to Alex and Vera Strukoff, Mike married Viola (Pepin) in 1949. He is survived by his loving wife Viola, sons Michael (Marilyn) and Paul (Natalie) in Grand Forks, and Brian (Sherry) in Abbotsford, BC, six grandchildren, sisters Eilleen Popoff and Elizabeth Zwick and many other relatives.

Walter Soobotin of Grand Forks, BC passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 1, 2012, at the age of 77. Born in Grand Forks on February 11, 1934, third of five children in the family of George and Ann Soobotin, Walter lived all his life in Grand Forks, where he married Mary Swetlishoff and they raised two children. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife Mary (2004). He is survived by son Lorne (Debbie) Soobotin, daughter Debbie Hrooshkin, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, as well as brothers George and Charlie (Joyce) and sisters Zena Nevokshonoff and Polly (Paul) Pereverzoff, all of Grand Forks.
No funeral service by request. Cremation has taken place, entombment at Evergreen Cemetery; Grand Forks Funeral Home in care of arrangements. A family celebration of Walter’s life will take place in the summer. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted to the USCC Website.

Helen Kisling of Calgary, Alberta (formerly of Grand Forks, BC) passed away at the Southwood Care Centre in Calgary, on December 29, 2011. She was 84 years old. Born on December 8, 1927, in Kylemore, Saskatchewan, Helen was the third of four children of John W. and Annie Soloveoff. Predeceased by her husband Eddie, her parents, sister Mabel and brother Pete, she is survived by her daughter Sherre (Mark) Lapointe in Kamloops, BC, brother Fred in Grand Forks, and dear companion Robert Campbell in Calgary.

Bill W. Voykin of Krestova, BC passed away on December 22, 2011 at the Kootenay Lake and District Hospital in Nelson, BC at the age of 87. Born on October 12, 1924, in Yorkton, SK, to Bill and Polly Voykin, Bill lived in Krestova since 1972, formerly in Glade. He is predeceased by his wife Una (2004) and his brother Alec (1996). He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth (Hoodicoff) and Louise (Konkin), his son Lee, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and sister Polly Makonen and family.
A funeral service will be held at the Krestova Community Hall on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:00 am (viewing at 9:30 am), with burial to follow at the Krestova Cemetery. Harry Vanjoff of Castlegar, BC passed away on December 5, 2011, at the Kootenay-Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC. He was 76 years old. Born on May 3, 1935, in Grand Forks, BC, to Peter and Mary Vanjoff, Harry lived in Ootischenia since 1971. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, daughters Tamara and Taresa and families, five grandchildren, brother Pete, sister Myrtle and families, and many other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at the Brilliant Cultural Centre on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM, with interment to take place the following day, at noon, Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the Sion Doukhobor Cemetery in Grand Forks. AMANDA O`CONNOR - Posted November 23, 2011

Amanda O'Connor passed away November 20, 2011, in the presence of loving family members at the hospital in Wellington, New Zealand. She was 39 years old. She died very unexpectedly, due to a rare condition complicated by her pregnancy, and her five month-old daughter, Ava May Atahua O'Connor, also did not survive. This tragedy is a profound shock to her husband Sean O'Connor, their two daughters, Acacia and Rosie, Amanda's mother Beatrice Ironside, eight older brothers and sisters and their families, and many other relatives and friends. In light of Amanda's and Sean's inspiring joint musical journey of two decades, including their recent overseas tour with the band LAVA, this loss has reverberated around the world.
Amanda's funeral will be held on Friday, 25 November, at Old St Paul's Church, 34 Mulgrave Street, Thorndon, Wellington, at 9.30 am. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to the O'Connor family are greatly appreciated.

Jeffrey Verigin of Grand Forks, BC passed away on October 23, 2011, in Vancouver, BC. , in the loving presence of his family and friends. He was 45 years old. Born on December 3, 1965 in Vancouver, BC, to Alex and Anne Verigin, Jeff lived most of his life in Grand Forks. His untimely passing leaves behind very bereaved parents Anne Verigin and Alex Verigin, a brother Iain Verigin and his wife Sue, his nieces Mikaela and Katie, and his nephew Thomas and many other relatives and friends.

Helen Novokshonoff of Grand Forks, BC passed away on October 22, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at the Castleview Care Centre in Castlegar, BC. She was 92 years old. Born on July 2, 1919, in Kamsack, Sask. to Peter and Lucy Demenoff, Helen lived in Grand Forks since 1936, where she married Mike Novokshonoff in 1939. Her husband predeceased her and with declining health Helen moved to Castlegar in 2007 to be closer to her daughter. She is survived by her daughter Vera Kanigan (Walter), son Paul Novokshonoff, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
