Several hundred people gathered at the Brilliant Cultural Centre on Sunday, October 25, 2009 to observe one year since the passing of USCC Honourary Chairman, John J. Verigin, who died October 26, 2008
May 16-18, 2009 - 62nd Annual Youth Festival
The 62nd Annual USCC Union of Youth Festival, held at the Brilliant Cultural Centre (BCC) in Castlegar, BC was widely judged to be “the best in a decade” by those in attendance.
May 2009 - Cultural Interpretive Society Website
The USCC Cultural Interpretive Society has recently announced the launch of its new
website at the 62nd Annual Youth Festival on May 17th, 2009 in Castlegar, BC. This new
website focuses on the craftwork and humanitarian programs and activities of this Castlegar-based non-profit society. The website development was initiated by a CIS webgroup in 2008. This group has dedicated hundreds of hours to the collection and compiling of content for this website which now includes over 60 webpages and many excellent photographs of traditional Doukhobor textile and fibre crafts. The USCC commemorated the Doukhobor leader, Peter Petrovich Verigin - Chistyakov, who passed away 70 years ago this month, on February 11, 1939. Traditional Moleniye prayer services took place at the Brilliant Cultural Centre in Castlegar, BC, and at the USCC Community Centre in Grand Forks, BC.

A very inspiring Second Spiritual Power-up Session took place at the Brilliant Cultural Centre, facilitated by Liana Zwick, Michael Cheveldave and Colin Markin. An enthusiastic gathering, consisting of 45 elders, 22 middle-aged and 22 youth mixed themselves up at round tables and discussed three points suggested by the facilitators: 1.
